The Community Medicine department is well equipped with state of the art seminar room. To facilitate interactive and practical learning the department wields with itself 4 labs Public Health Lab Nutrition Unit Health Education Unit Research Lab Each one well equipped with instruments, charts, models, specimen for students to discover, learn and experiment. The Community Medicine department bolsters research activities in students by providing facilities like computer with high speed internet.
Krishna Rajendra Hospital (K R Hospital) and Cheluvamba Hospitals are both Tertiary Referral Centers and Teaching Hospitals attached to the Mysore Medical College. K R Hospital has a total bed capacity of around 1330 beds which includes 335 beds in General Medicine, 313 in General Surgery and about 500 in other specialties like ENT, Ophthalmology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Psychiatry and others. A new multistoried OPD building has recently been commissioned and this houses a state of the art ICCU on the ground floor and medical wards on other floors in addition to various consultation rooms. The surgical wards are located in a separate building which is popularly known as the “stone building”. The hospital has a 24 hour casualty, radiology, microbiology, pathology and biochemistry laboratories, blood bank and pharmacy catering to its needs. More recently a number of super specialties have been introduced and patients have had the benefit of utilizing plastic surgery, urology, nephrology, cardiology, laser surgery, burns ward and dialysis services to mention a few.
Cheluvamba Hospitals and Krishna Rajendra Hospital (K R Hospital) are both Tertiary Referral Centers and Teaching Hospitals attached to the Mysore Medical College. Cheluvamba Hospital has a total bed capacity of around 410 beds and this includes 130 beds in Pediatric wards and 280 beds in Obstetrics and Gynaecology wards. It also has a designated Neonatal ward and a Diarrhoeal Diseases Unit. Besides offering service to the routine obstetric, gynaecology and paediatric patients, it has specialized units providing neonatal care, paediatric surgery, diarrhoeal diseases treatment and immunizations to mention a few.
Located in the serene beauty of Ponnampet, Coorg district, this PHC serves a population of about 5000. Dr. Kariappa is the Medical officer here. The centre serves the needy with ECG, X-ray, USG, biochem lab, inpatient and emergency care, minor OT and immunisation facilities.
